All-terrain (A/T) tyres

Tougher carcass and open tread for gravel, dirt and sand.

Reinforced sidewalls, chip-resistant compounds and self-cleaning tread blocks. They trade road noise and some wet bitumen grip for puncture resistance and traction off the seal. Light Truck (LT) construction is worth it if you tow or carry weight.

Are all-terrain tyres good on the road?

Modern A/T tyres are much quieter and grippier on bitumen than they used to be, but they still brake longer in the wet and use more fuel than a highway-terrain tyre. If you rarely leave sealed roads, a highway-terrain (H/T) tyre is the better choice.
